The Chapel and Prayer Rooms thoughtfully located at both level of care buildings are open 24/7 and allow for service fellowship or quiet prayer and reflection. The Spiritual Chairman has officiated resident weddings, wakes and memorial services.
Active and retired UCC Ministers that support our ministry by leading services, providing friendly visits to hospitalized residents or other spiritual campus life programs may participate in an apartment rental discount program for these pastoral in-kind services. Today, there are 6 retired UCC ministers that have made Cape Albeon their home.
Rev. Le, the Spiritual Chairman reads between the lines of the scripture, creating short plays.
The residents and staff then come together to act out the stories!
This has become so popular that there is talk of taking these plays on the road to other retirement communities.
The bi-monthly World religion classes are also quite popular. Residents come together with the Spiritual Chairman to study the different religions of the world, going on field trips to learn more when they can. For example, while studying Judaism, the residents went to a Jewish Temple to attend a religious service, the Holocaust Museum, and spoke to a Rabbi about Judaism.
Ms. Nancy Hicks RN, is the full-time Deaconess Faith Community Nurse offering optional holistic health consultation with the residents. This service has proven beneficial and life changing. Contacts from a network of professionals are made readily available to help our residents navigate through complex medical, social and spiritual issues.
Passport to Travel is a first-of-its-kind travel program initiated by The Council for Health and Human Service Ministries (CHHSM), it allows residents at fourteen CHHSM-related senior living organizations to lodge free of charge at a sister community of their choice for up to two weeks.
Volunteers are always mission critical to Cape Albeon. The opportunities are boundless and meaningful for residents, families and the volunteers. Programs are tailored to the unique desires and availability of the volunteer. Wellness, friendly visits, bible study, helping on road trips is just a few of the possibilities. Please contact us if you have a desire to do this service!
